Figure 7 - Higher resolution photograph (433k) of beam diameter at 1000ft - true color ASA1600 exposure

Beam diameter at 1000ft - true color ASA1600 exposure

Distance 1000ft (304 meters). Full moon night 1-25-2005. 1600 speed film. f/2 iris. Pentax MV1 ASA setting - 1600. Pentax MV1 SLR 50mm Lens with auto-shutter timing. Angular width of image is approx. 35 degrees.

Comments: This image is identical in position to the 1000ft on-axis view down the laser pointer beam, except now the camera has been turned around and the laser pointer's beam is projected onto an 8 1/2 x 11 inch pad of paper. The green light portion of the exposure accurately represents the pointer beam's color seen with the naked-eye. The image accurately portrays the intensity and molted scintillation of the dim pointer light seen by the naked-eye at this distance. The red/yellow overexposure in the lower-left hand corner of the image is a false color.
